Ecuador & Peru: Quito

I have had the privilege of returning to Ecuador on numerous occasions since returning home from my missionary service there from 1999-2001.  Every visit included new destinations and exploring, along with catching-up with old friends and acquaintances.  Each trip had been memorable in its own right, but each visit always ended the same way:  It involved a close friend taking me to the airport and upon my departure them saying, "Don't come back without a wife" This time I followed directions.
We purchased Finn a backpack/carrier and it ended up being the best purchase for the adventure.  He was quite the "trooper" on the flights and was spoiled by all the stewardesses.

I never dreamt Id actually be the guy who uses the diaper-changing station in an airplane bathroom. Side note: It also acts as a great table for father/son selfies.
All tuckered out.  We made it to the Capitol Quito around 11:00pm.

QUITO- ECUADOR

Plaza de Armas.

We stayed in a turn of the century hotel that overlooked the plaza.  The balcony was enclosed with large windows which were a welcoming site every morning for breakfast.

The narrow and uneven cobblestone streets were a bit difficult for Finns little feet.
They also provided him with a better view from Dad shoulders.

The Presidential Plaza. The building directly behind us (flying the Ecuadorian flag) is the Presidential Palace. Essentially- The "White House" of Ecuador. We made it right up to the guards & Country Seal.

Cathedrals, Chapels, Museums & Monasteries.

Ecuador is rich in religious architecture. Many have free admission, some cost a few dollars, and MOST (if not all) will grant "All Access" if you speak Spanish well and have a little extra cash.

Case in point: Roof Access!

Basilica del Voto Nacional

If you look closely- You can see the Snarr Family in the "attic" of the Cathedral, directly
in-front of the main stained glass window.

This area was basically "Janitor Access" along the spine/pitch of the main roof.
From this point you have access to the bell towers and clock towers.

Brit was tempted to change the time on the clock- but resisted:)

Local park that we found downtown. Finn was in his element.

Late night stroll. This particular cathedral is the OLDEST in not only
Quito, but all of Ecuador.

We took a two hour bus ride just north of Quito to some natural hot springs called Termas Papallacta.  To my amazement they were quite well kept and very relaxing.  Definitely a spot
we would recommend to others and also visit again.
